OVBC 2027 Faculty

In addition of being President of Rothman Institute, Vaccaro is Professor and Chairman of Orthopaedic Surgery at Thomas Jefferson University. He is the past President of the American Spinal Injury Association. He has over 650 peer reviewed publications and is the editor of over 54 textbooks and co-editor of OKU-Spine I and editor of OKU-8.

Dr. Bozic is the Chair of Surgery and Perioperative Care at the Dell Medical School at UT Austin. He is an internationally recognized leader in orthopaedic surgery and value-based health care payment and delivery models. Dr Bozic is a Past President of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons.

Dr. Gupta is a world-renowned orthopedic surgeon and researcher funded by NIH-NINDS/NIA as a principal investigator for over 17 years. Gupta has previously served as Chair of Orthopedics at UCI, received numerous awards such as the NIH Career Development Award/Kappa Delta/ABC traveling fellowship, and recently started as a Chair at Creighton/CommonSpirit in September 2024.

Dr. Springer is currently the Chair of the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at Mayo Clinic Florida.  He is the Immediate Past Chair for the American Joint Replacement Registry (AJRR) and was the 2022 President of the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons (AAHKS). He serves as President and is on the Board of Directors for the International Orthopedic Education Network (IOEN).

Antonia Chen MD/MBA is the Chair of the Department of Orthopaedics at University of Texas Southwestern. She is a Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery and holds the Charles F. Gregory Distinguished Chair in Orthopaedic Surgery. She received her BS from Yale University, her MD from Rutgers Medical School, and her MBA from Rutgers Business School. She completed her orthopaedic residency at the University of Pittsburgh and her fellowship in adult reconstruction at the Rothman Institute/Jefferson University.

Dr. Mark Vrahas is a nationally recognized orthopedic trauma surgeon and health care leader whose work spans complex fracture care, academic program building, clinical operations, and musculoskeletal care delivery. At OVBC 2027, he brings the perspective of Cedars-Sinai’s orthopedic chair, focused on the real-world challenges hospitals, surgeons, and perioperative teams face as they improve quality, access, efficiency, and value across orthopedic episodes of care in increasingly accountable and financially constrained practice environments.

Lauren Shapiro, MD MS is an Associate Professor in Residence of orthopaedic surgery at the University of California – San Francisco. Her research program on outcomes and high value care is supported by the NIH, OREF, and the National Academies of Medicine. Given her expertise on patient-reported outcomes, value-based care, and quality and performance improvement, Dr. Shapiro serves on multiple national committees including as the Co-Chair of the AAOS PROMs Workgroup.

Andre serves as, a multispecialty Orthopedic practice in the greater Chicago area with approximately 165 Physicians who specialize 11 different Orthopedic subspecialties as well as Rheumatology and Pain Management. Amongst other duties, he also serves on the Value Based Committee for the OrthoForum and oversees IBJI’s “OrthoSync” program, a convener organization that serves clients in CMS’s BPCI-A Model along with Commercial Bundles.

Dr. Jevsevar is the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of OrthoVirginia. He was previously Chair of the Department of Orthopaedics at the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth. Dr. Jevsevar has had a long involvement with value-based care including evidence-based medicine, clinical program and care pathway development, quality and performance improvement, and clinical/patient–reported outcomes.

Dr. Chamberlain serves on multiple national committees, including the AAOS Evidence-Based Quality and Value Committee. Dr. Chamberlain has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications and has received research funding from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the Orthopedic Research and Education Foundation. He is a leader in musculoskeletal care and an advocate for healthcare safety and quality.

Leo Spector is CEO of OrthoCarolina in Charlotte and is a practicing board-certified fellowship-trained orthopedic spine surgeon. Formerly Chief Quality Officer, he led the value-based care program. He served on the Lumbar Spine Research Society board and is a past President of the North Carolina Spine Society. Dr Spector holds a BA from Colgate University, an MD from the University of Massachusetts Medical School, and an MBA from Duke Fuqua School of Business.

Dr. Ast is a hip and knee replacement surgeon specializing in rapid-recovery, short-stay, outpatient, complex, and revision joint replacement. He is a recognized expert in robotic and computer-assisted surgery, surgical innovation, opioid-sparing pain management, and accelerated recovery. He has published and presented more than 500 articles, chapters, and invited lectures, and has helped design surgical technology and implants. He holds the John N. Insall Endowed Chair and is a member of the prestigious Knee Society.

Alice Issai is president of Adventist Health’s Southern California Network, overseeing four acute care hospitals in Glendale, Simi Valley, White Memorial, and White Memorial Montebello. A respected Southern California healthcare executive, she combines strategic vision with operational leadership to advance clinical excellence and access to care. Since joining Adventist Health Glendale in 2018, she has strengthened advanced specialty programs and helped the hospital earn five consecutive CMS five-star ratings from 2020–2024 under her leadership regionwide.

Kevin Fleming serves as the System Senior Vice President for Clinical Service Lines within CommonSpirit Health, one of the country's largest faith-based, not-for-profit health systems. Kevin leads a team of service line executives and physician dyads serving across the country to drive performance in clinical outcomes, financial sustainability, operational excellence, and strategic growth. He has previously served in executive roles with Providence and AdventHealth.

Sharon Isonaka, MD, MS, drives high-value care initiatives at Cedars-Sinai. She designs strategic programs that enhance clinical efficiency, improve care transitions, and lower patient readmission rates. An advocate for health equity, she utilizes data-driven approaches to uncover and eliminate systemic racial disparities in medicine. Additionally, she leads educational programming to develop the next generation of healthcare leaders, consistently bridging the gap between complex health services research and everyday clinical excellence at the hospital.

Dr. Fagin is the Chief Quality Officer for HCA Healthcare, the world’s largest hospital management company with over 2,500 sites of care across the United States and the United Kingdom. His responsibilities extend over HCA Healthcare's Patient Safety, Regulatory, and Clinical Service Line strategy and performance as well as Quality Reporting and Benchmarking.

Kathy is the Associate Director of Orthopaedic Clinical Programs at Cedars-Sinai, where she helps design and implement care models that improve orthopedic patient outcomes across complex hospital settings. Her work includes geriatric fracture care, clinical pathway development, interdisciplinary coordination, and value-based orthopedic programs. At OVBC 2027, she brings a frontline operational perspective on translating orthopedic value-based care from strategy into durable daily practice for hospitals, nurses, surgeons, and patients.

Dr. Aashish Shah has a 360° perspective of healthcare with roles spanning the continuum from individual provider to institutional payer. He is a seasoned executive whose expertise is the achievement of healthcare innovation through the integration of product design, physician alignment, network development and value-based contracting. He is now the Corporate Vice President for Strategy, Product Innovation within HCA’s Payer Contracting and Alignment. He is responsible for leading HCA’s product development and innovation through strategic alignment with health plans, third-party administrators and employers.

Jeromie is managing over 1,200 caregivers and a $4 billion supply budget. With more than 30 years of healthcare experience, he has held key executive roles at Allina Health, DCH Health System, UCHealth, and UPMC. An expert in clinical value analysis and strategic sourcing, Atkinson also serves as an adjunct professor at the University of Utah and writes for CEOWORLD magazine.

An accomplished biopharmaceutical leader, Mr. Lee brings thirty years of global experience and a strong track record of product development and commercial success across both small biotech and large pharmaceutical organizations. Mr. Lee currently serves as Chief Executive Officer and member of the Board of Directors at Pacira BioSciences Inc. He most recently served as Chief Executive Officer and member of the Board of Directors of publicly traded Forma Therapeutics.

Dr. Slonin oversees research and development and all customer-facing medical operations in addition to clinical, R&D, and medical strategy. He is a board-certified anesthesiologist who has held numerous clinical and leadership positions with TeamHealth and Envision Healthcare including Regional Medical Director for the Southeast with TeamHealth and Chairman of Anesthesiology for the Cleveland Clinic Martin Health.

Kain is a thought leader in Orthopedic Value based care and an international expert on Perioperative Surgical Home and enhanced recovery. He is also a national leader in perioperative digital health. He previously served as Chair of Anesthesiology and Associate Dean of Clinical Operations Officer in UC Irvine Health.

Maxime Cannesson, MD, PhD, is a board-certified anesthesiologist with more than 16 years of experience in academic medicine, leadership, education, research, quality, and technology development, working collaboratively within and among various countries, departments, academic institutions, and industry. He is Professor and Chair of the Department of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine at UCLA. He has published more than 200 peer reviewed articles and three textbooks.

Ed White has extensive experience in representing accountable care organizations, clinical integration networks, value-based enterprises and worked with providers in creating value-based contracts, arrangements, and joint ventures. He has represented hospitals in the formation and operation of integrated hospital and physician delivery systems, joint venture relationships, and other hospital/physician transactions. He also has represented physician practices in structuring mergers, consolidations, acquisitions, joint ventures, contractual agreements, and strategic affiliations with hospitals and other healthcare providers

He directs clinical policies, medical management, and regional quality initiatives. Recognized by the Philadelphia Business Journal as a "Leader in Health Care," Dr. Snyder also received the American Heart Association’s "Heart of Philadelphia" award for expanding community health networks. At OVBC 2027, he brings a crucial payer perspective, highlighting his extensive experience executing major commercial value-based contracts, integrating multi-disciplinary provider workflows, and optimizing total population outcomes to build sustainable, high-value specialty care delivery models.
